Transport minister priorities safe & organised Char Dham Yatra

Transport minister Pradeep Batra emphasised that ensuring safe, organised and efficient transport arrangements during the Char Dham Yatra is the top priority of the State government. He was addressing a special programme organised by the Dehradun Division under the guidance of regional transport office (Enforcement and Road safety) Dr Anita Chamola, on Wednesday. The event was held in view of the upcoming Char Dham Yatra -2026, with the goal of strengthening road safety and promoting the active participation of women in the transport sector. As part of these preparations, the State government launched the Nari Shakti – Road Safety Pledge programme in Dehradun to ensure a safe, robust and sensitive transport system.
The programme saw participation from numerous women officers, employees and women drivers and conductors from the Uttarakhand Transport Department, Uttarakhand Transport Corporation and the private transport sector. Discussions focused on increasing the participation of women in the transport sector, sharing their experiences and challenges and exploring future opportunities with special emphasis on the growing role of women in Uttarakhand.
While discussing safe and organised transport arrangements for the Char Dham Yatra, Batra stated, “The participation of Nari Shakti strengthens this system—this involvement signifies a positive transformation.”
Joint transport commissioner, Rajeev Kumar Mehra added, “The Transport department is continuously working to enhance women’s participation. By providing better training, safety protocols and improved workplace facilities, we are building an inclusive and efficient transport system that will further strengthen road safety.”
During the event, Chamola said that currently, around 120 women officers and employees are working in the Uttarakhand Transport department, actively contributing to enforcement duties day and night. This reflects their dedication, courage and commitment.
Officials also said that the department is working on new initiatives to ensure specialised training, helpline services and a safe working environment for women employees. Additionally, special arrangements will be made during the Char Dham Yatra to ensure the safety of women passengers.
Notably, as part of the programme, women who have made significant contributions to the transport sector were honored with certificates and mementos. Additionally, all participants collectively pledged to enhance public awareness about road safety and to ensure a safe and disciplined transport system.
