STF arrests two men with 5 kg charas in Kathgodam

The Special Task Force (STF) Anti-Narcotics Kumaon Unit, along with Kathgodam Police, arrested two drug smugglers and recovered about five kilogrammes of charas from the Damuadhunga area on Sunday under Kathgodam police station area. The arrested accused have been identified as Praveen Arya and Balwant Singh. Police said both men were taken into custody and a case has been registered against them under the NDPS Act.
Police said that the international market value of the recovered contraband is about Rs 10 lakh. Both accused were allegedly involved in smuggling charas for a long time. They were allegedly supplying drugs to different areas of the State.
During questioning, the accused told police that they used to buy charas from Bageshwar district. After that, they sold it at higher prices in Nainital and Udham Singh Nagar districts.
Police officials said strict action will continue against drug smugglers across the State. The STF is now investigating the forward and backward links of the accused to find out other people connected to this network.
