District Administration takes major action against Subharti Group

The Dehradun district administration has taken action against the Subharti Group by issuing a recovery warrant of Rs 87.63 crore. The action was taken under the instructions of Dehradun district magistrate Savin Bansal. The administration said the amount has been pending for a long time despite several notices.

According to the district administration, the Subharti medical college collected full fees from around 300 medical students for nearly six years even though proper infrastructure was not available. Because of this, the matter reached the Supreme Court. In 2019, the court ordered that all 300 students be shifted to three government medical colleges in the State and that they should pay only government college fees.

The transfer of these students and the infrastructural facilities needed to accommodate them created a heavy financial burden on the State government, as new infrastructure had to be arranged, similar to setting up a new medical college. Meanwhile, the institute had already taken fees from the students without providing proper facilities.

The director of Medical Education later recommended to the district magistrate that full recovery should be made from the institute. Acting on this recommendation, the district administration issued the recovery warrant. Officials said that in the coming days, the institute’s bank accounts may be seized and its properties attached if the dues are not cleared.

The DM said that misuse of public money will not be tolerated. He directed all revenue officials to prepare lists of big and small defaulters and start a special recovery campaign.
