Committed to women’s social, economic & legal empowerment: CM

Chief minister Pushkar Singh Dhami stated that the State government is continually working towards the social, economic and legal empowerment of women. He said this during a virtual attendance at the “Benefit from Charity” programme, an event organised by the Uttarakhand State Women Commission (USCW)  auditorium of AIIMS, Rishikesh, to celebrate International Women’s Day. The slogan for the event was “Women of the mountains are the power of the country”. 

During the programme, 12 women who have achieved significant milestones in security, education, self-employment and social service were honoured. Among these honourees were Jaya Baluni (SP Rural), Sakshi Singh (IIS), and Geeta Chandola. Dhami conveyed his heartfelt wishes for the programme, emphasising that recognising the generosity, cooperation and multifaceted contributions of women fosters positive thinking in society and represents a strong step towards women’s empowerment.

Shankaracharya (Shardapeethadhishwar) Swami Shri Rajarajeshwaram Ji Maharaj who also attended the programme highlighted the esteemed position of women in Indian culture, stating, “Mothers in our country are 100 per cent respected and have 100 per cent authority in every field. It is a matter of pride that today, the daughters of Uttarakhand are leading in every field”. 

USCW Chairwoman Kusum Kandawal said, “The commission’s primary goal is to provide justice and self-employment opportunities to women at the bottom of the pyramid’’. 

Chairwoman of the State commission for Protection of Child Rights Geeta Khanna, along with many other speakers, addressed the audience at the event.
