Three dead, four hurt after car collides with e-rickshaw on Haridwar-Laksar Road

Three persons died and four were seriously injured in a mishap on the Haridwar-Laksar Road on Sunday morning. The accident occurred near the Ferupur village under the Pathri police station area when a car reportedly being driven at speed collided head-on with an electric rickshaw. According to eyewitness accounts, the impact of the collision left the auto rickshaw a wreck while the car fell down a culvert. The locals nearby who witnessed the mishap and resulting calls for help from the injured reached the site and also informed the police.
Police from the Pathri police station and Ferupur police post reached the site of the mishap and extricated the injured persons from the mangled vehicles with the help of the local residents. The injured were sent to the hospital by ambulance. According to sources, the condition of the injured persons is reported to be serious.
The Pathri police station in-charge Manoj Nautiyal, the driver of the car Vikas Kumar (26), electric rickshaw driver Aash Mohammed (24) and his passenger Charan Singh (55) died on the spot. All three are residents of the district. Niraj KumAr (30), Ranjit (25), Divyansh (27) and Nancy (15) were seriously injured in the mishap. The police have informed the next-of-kin of those who died in the mishap. According to the findings in the preliminary investigation, high speed and carelessness while driving appear to be the main reasons behind the accident, he added.
Meanwhile, local residents opined that the failure of the authorities to widen the road is the main reason for the mishap. The demand for widening this road is being raised for about a decade now.
Responding to this, officials concerned said that the majority of accidents on this road are caused by high speed and violation of traffic rules. Speed breakers and reflectors have been put in place at various places by the department to prevent accidents and keep the drivers alert. Considering safety standards, the process for widening the road is also underway with the work expected to begin soon, officials said.
