Transport Dept cracks down on food delivery vehicles

PIONEER EDGE NEWS SERVICE/Dehradun
The Transport department has taken strict action against food delivery vehicles from Blinkit, Zomato and Swiggy services. A total of 41 challans were issued and eight vehicles were impounded for violating traffic rules and other issues.
The Regional Transport Officer (Enforcement and Road Safety) for the Dehradun division Anita Chamola informed that the action was prompted by complaints regarding traffic rule violations by delivery drivers from the food delivery companies, including driving without valid documentation and at high speeds. Considering this, a checking campaign was conducted in Dehradun, led by, the assistant regional transport officer (Enforcement) Pankaj Shrivastava. This campaign included an interceptor team, a task force and a bike squad.
She said that during the campaign, action was taken against 41 vehicles and eight were impounded for various violations, including the absence of valid documents, drivers without licenses and vehicles lacking number plates.
Chamola has urged that all food delivery vehicles should have valid documentation, drivers must possess valid licenses, vehicles should display HSRP plates as mandated and drivers must avoid reckless or high-speed driving. She also said that further actions will be implemented through ongoing campaigns to ensure compliance.
