PIONEER EDGE NEWS SERVICE/Dehradun

Authorities are taking violations related to bike rental shops seriously in view of the recent terror attack in Delhi and the increased focus on security compliance in tourist areas. Over the weekend, enforcement teams of the Transport department seized 25 two-wheelers and issued 80 challans during a checking drive in Mussoorie.

Two shops were also sealed for operating without valid permission. The regional transport officer (Administration) of Dehradun division Sandeep Saini said that the assistant regional transport officer Chakrapani Mishra led three teams with support from the local police and district administration on Saturday and Sunday.

The teams inspected bike rental shops operating in and around key tourist areas of the city. During the inspections, officials found violations including several vehicles registered as private but being used commercially. Several rental shops held licences with addresses from other locations while running business operations near Mall Road.

The enforcement teams issued over 80 challans and seized 25 vehicles that did not meet regulatory requirements. He said that the drive aims to ensure that rental services operate strictly within legal boundaries. He stated that any misuse of privately registered vehicles for commercial purposes may lead to uncontrolled operations and possible security risks. Saini added that stricter checks are necessary as large numbers of tourists visit Mussoorie daily, especially on weekends and holidays.

The department will continue such inspections across the area to maintain regulatory control and support the ongoing security focus, he said. Saini stated that the Transport department intends to maintain regular monitoring and take firm action against establishments that ignore rules and operate without proper authorisation.
