Two Bangladeshi women living illegally in Dehradun were caught by the Patelnagar Police on Tuesday. Both had been staying in Doon under assumed identities. This comes after the recent arrest of a Bangladeshi man who married an Indian woman and was living here with fake identity cards.
The first woman was caught from Dehrakhas area. She had been living in India using the fake name Bhumi Sharma. During questioning, she revealed her real name as Babli Khatoon, a citizen of Bangladesh. Police found several fake Indian documents from her possession. These included a fake Aadhaar card, voter ID, ration card and Ayushman card made in the name of Bhumi Sharma. Police also found her original Bangladeshi ID card. She had entered India illegally during the Covid period. Later, she came to Dehradun in 2021 and married a local man in 2022 using her fake identity. Police have filed a case against her under sections of Passport Act, Foreigners Act and other relevant sections.
The second woman was detained from Kalindi Vihar on Kargi Road. She identified herself as Bobby Khatoon, a native of Bogura district in Bangladesh. She told the police that she entered India illegally in 2023 and had been working as a labourer in Dehradun. Police recovered a photocopy of her Bangladeshi passport. She will be deported to Bangladesh soon as per government rules, officials said.
Police said that under Operation Kalnemi, action has already been taken earlier against 17 Bangladeshi citizens living illegally in the district. Out of these, eight were sent to jail on court orders for using fake documents and nine have already been deported.
Police are now investigating the people who helped prepare fake documents for the arrested women. Action will be taken against them soon, the police said.
