Even as temperatures remained a few notches above normal in Dehradun and some other parts of the State, the State Meteorological Centre has forecast rain and snowfall in some mountainous regions on Monday. The centre has forecast that very light to light rain/snow is likely to occur at isolated places in Uttarkashi, Chamoli and Pithoragarh districts. Snowfall is likely to occur in places situated at altitudes of 3,500 metres and above while dry weather is likely to prevail in the remaining districts of the State today.
The provisional State capital Dehradun is forecast to witness a mainly clear to partly cloudy sky. The maximum and minimum temperatures are likely to be about 25 degrees Celsius and eight degrees Celsius respectively on Monday.
The maximum and minimum temperatures recorded in various parts of the State on Sunday were 25.4 degrees Celsius and 9.2 degrees Celsius respectively in Dehradun, 25.3 degrees Celsius and 6.9 degrees Celsius in Pantnagar, 18.3 degrees Celsius and 5.3 degrees Celsius in Mukteshwar and 16.3 degrees Celsius and 4.8 degrees Celsius in New Tehri. According to the meteorological centre, no significant rain or snowfall activity was reported in the State on Sunday. It is pertinent to mention here that in past years, a few spells of snowfall used to be experienced by the middle of December. However, there has been a dearth of proper snowfall in the winter so far in the mountainous areas of the State.
