Forest minister Subodh Uniyal said that the Corbett Tiger Reserve is not only playing a vital role in wildlife conservation but is also providing employment opportunities to thousands of people. He was addressing a programme organised by the Forest department in village Sanwalde here on Sunday.
The minister inaugurated the ‘Usha TCF Training-cum-Production Centre’ on the occasion. He said that women from nearby villages would receive training in tailoring and garment production at the centre, enabling them to become self-reliant. He added that when rural women get employment opportunities within their villages, their dependence on forests would reduce, which would further strengthen forest conservation efforts.
In the programme the minister also flagged off 10 patrol bikes provided by the government for the protection of wildlife and to strengthen anti-poaching surveillance in forest areas. He said that the State government is making continuous efforts for wildlife conservation and implementing several initiatives for the protection of forests and wild animals.
On the occasion, KVR Hospital organized a health camp where Dr Manas and his team conducted eye check-ups, heart examinations, and other health screening of local people.
Later in the day, Uniyal visited the Government Hospital in Ramnagar and inspected the cleanliness and healthcare facilities there. He also interacted with patients. Uniyal said that an orthopaedic surgeon would soon be appointed at the Ramnagar hospital to improve healthcare facilities for local residents. Local MLA Diwan Singh Bisht and others accompanied the minister.
