University of Petroleum and Energy Studies (UPES) on Tuesday released its Impact Assessment Report 2024–25 and Greenhouse Gas (GHG) Emissions Report, and inaugurated the Bajaj Engineering Skills Training (BEST) Centre at its Dehradun campus. The initiatives were unveiled by Uttarakhand Governor Lt. Gen. Gurmit Singh.
UPES has become the first university in India to undertake a comprehensive impact assessment integrated with full GHG accounting across Scope 1, 2 and 3 emissions. The university has been awarded the ‘Gold Leaf’ certification by Aspire Impact, with Platinum-level performance in Inclusion and Emissions Management.
The assessment is based on Aspire Impact’s 4P framework—Product, People, Planet and Policy—aligned with QS and NAAC benchmarks. The university is progressing towards its Net Zero target for 2031 while reducing its carbon footprint.
According to the report, 48 per cent of students are from underserved communities, women constitute 32 per cent of the workforce, and 100 per cent employees are covered under health and retirement benefits. The campus also ensures 100 per cent wastewater treatment through zero-discharge systems.
The BEST Centre, launched in collaboration with Bajaj Auto Ltd., will provide hands-on training in mechatronics, robotics, automation and smart manufacturing, strengthening industry readiness.
The Governor said UPES is setting a benchmark in linking education with sustainability and employability. Vice Chancellor Dr Sunil Rai emphasised the university’s focus on measurable impact and future-ready education.
