GDMC steps up services with separate emergency OTs

PIONEER EDGE NEWS SERVICE/Dehradun
To give relief to patients who have to wait long for emergency services, the Government Doon Medical College (GDMC) Hospital has started separate emergency operation theaters (OTs) for various departments. The hospital officials said that this arrangement was a long due one. “Patients needing immediate intervention in critical cases should not be made to wait,” said one of them. They informed that GDMC is also working to increase the number of ICU beds and expand critical care services to provide better and timelier treatment for patients in critical condition. This aside, the installation of state-of-the-art bariatric and ERCP machines in the surgery OTs, along with the addition of five new anesthesia workstations, has further enhanced surgical services. All of the GDMC major and minor operating theaters are now fully equipped with anesthesia facilities, they claimed.
They further said that these improvements have positively impacted the training of postgraduate residents, who are gaining clinical experience with a greater number of diverse and complex cases, thereby enhancing their practical skills.
Both physicians and doctors-in-training hailed these service improvements at the premier State-run health facility of the city, calling them significant improvement in the quality of healthcare. Junior doctors in the Surgery department sounded enthusiastic over these new arrangements, saying that these would add to the richness of their learning experiences.
