Uttarakhand to set in place CMP for smooth traffic flow on Doon- Haridwar- Rishikesh corridor

The State government is planning to set in place a Comprehensive Mobility Plan (CMP) for ensuring smooth and fast flow of traffic in the Dehradun- Haridwar- Rishikesh corridor.  A high level deliberation on the CMP-2024 was held at the State secretariat on Thursday in which discussion on setting in place a modern, well arranged and environmentally friendly traffic system in the most important corridor of the State. The meeting was chaired by secretary, R Rajesh Kumar. 

In the meeting a presentation on the CMP- 2024 was held in which the challenges in Dehradun district ( city, Vikasnagar and Rishikesh) and Haridwar district ( city, Roorkee and Bhagwanpur) were discussed. Discussion on the technical, social and economic aspects of the CMP-2024 were held in detail. It was suggested that in all the future plans, the concept of an integrated transport system should be kept in the centre.

Many projects are envisaged under the CMP -2024 which includes 73 km long Electric Bus Rapid Transit System (E-BRTS) in Dehradun- Rishikesh- Haridwar corridor. The CMP also includes Personal Rapid Transit (PRT) in Haridwar which will help in giving a new direction to religious tourism. Ropeways projects connecting the places of religious and tourist interest are also part of the CMP-2024. It also focuses on Smart Traffic Management System, modern signalling and parking management and construction of bypass roads. 

The experts are of the view that the CMP when set in place will help in better and effective traffic management during Kanwad Yatra and Kumbh Mela. Every year lakhs of pilgrims traverse the corridor putting in heavy pressure on these cities.

Secretary, R Rajesh Kumar said that CMP-2024 is a major step in the direction of fulfilling the vision of chief minister Pushkar Singh Dhami of developing the cities of the State as per the needs of the future. It will make the traffic flow between Haridwar, Dehradun and Rishikesh smoother, fast and safer. 

The meeting was attended by the managing director of Uttarakhand Metro Rail Corporation Brijesh Kumar Mishra, director (finance) Sanjiv Mehta and others.
