Doonites urge Govt to fix potholes on internal roads too

PIONEEREDGE NEWS SERVICE | Dehradun
Numerous residents of Dehradun have voiced their concerns, urging the State government not to solely concentrate on repairing potholes on main roads, but also to address the internal roads in the city. This call for action arose following the recent announcement that the State administration will initiate a special campaign aimed at eliminating potholes across all roads in the State once the monsoon ends.
The chief minister Pushkar Singh Dhami instructed officials to finalise the tendering process for road repairs before the campaign begins. Residents pointed out that these recent directives must not remain limited merely to documentation and that the State government must ensure that pothole maintenance is resolved permanently after this monsoon season.
It will be recalled that CM has repeatedly ordered that all roads in the State be devoid of potholes. Yet, this goal has yet to be achieved.
Further, Dhami had earlier introduced an app for reporting potholes, aimed at tackling the issue; however, potholes in Dehradun district continue to pose a major problem.
Localite Manvi Chauhan said that everytime the State government announces plans to repair potholes, these promises often remain unfulfilled, existing merely as statements on paper. She said that in Dehradun, potholes dot not only the main roads but also the internal streets. She urged the State government to ensure that this time, the pothole repairs are actually carried out and that maintenance work includes not just the main thoroughfares but also the internal roads. She suggested that the officials concerned including ward councillors, should be assigned this responsibility.
Another local resident Ujjwal Kumar voiced similar concerns regarding the growing number of potholes that could pose risks especially during the monsoon season. He emphasised that the government must ensure that its recent announcements are fulfilled. Instead of merely patching the potholes with temporary materials, he advocated for permanent repairs using suitable materials to prevent the recurrence of potholes every monsoon or within a very short span of time.
“Potholes in Dehradun have become a significant issue for commuters, appearing every few metres. These potholes often become concealed by rainwater, leading to accidents. While the recent directives from authorities to repair potholes are commendable, their true value will only be realised through effective implementation. Additionally, internal road potholes should also be repaired with permanent and appropriate materials,” said another resident Hemant Ghildiyal
