The Udham Singh Nagar district administration locked the madrasa at Trishul Chowk owned by Mufti Mujib, who had criticized the Dhami government for the constitution of the Minority Education Authority superseding the Madrasa Board. Defending the action, the district administration stated that the madrasa had been operating without the approval of the Minority Education Authority.
Notably, the Dhami government made it mandatory for the madrasas to get recognition from the Authority and Uttarakhand Education Board.
There are 118 madrasas functioning across Udham Singh Nagar district, out of which five have already been closed, 60 have not applied yet and the remaining have applied online for recognition.
The district magistrate Nitin Singh Bhadauria said that the madrassa concerned did not have the documents required for recognition.
The secretary, Minority Welfare Department, Parag Madhukar Dhakate stated that 452 madrasas, previously registered with the board, must obtain recognition from the Minority Education Authority. “The schools which are not recognised will be shut down,” he said, adding that applications have been received from approximately 200 madrasas and a spot survey is being conducted.
