Dehradun police on Wednesday arrested three more accused in connection with the murder of a retired brigadier who was killed by a stray bullet while out on a morning walk in Rajpur area. Meanwhile, Shantanu Tyagi, who according to the police fired shots resulting in the death of the former brigadier is still absconding.
Earlier, four accused had been arrested in the case and sent to jail. Police had also recovered two country-made pistols and four live cartridges from their possession.
The newly arrested accused have been identified as Aadesh Giri (50), Sameer Chaudhary (21) and Mohit Arora (28). Based on a complaint filed by the deceased’s brother-in-law, Rakesh Kumar Upreti, an FIR was registered at Rajpur police station under Section 103(1) of the BNS.
The incident had taken place on March 30 when the police control room received information about firing in Johdi village. During investigation, it was found that two vehicles—a Scorpio-N and a Delhi-registered Fortuner—were moving at high speed from Malsi towards Johdi village, with occupants firing at each other.
During the incident, brigadier ( retd) Mukesh Kumar Joshi (74), a resident of Johri village, was hit by a bullet while out on a morning walk. He was rushed to Max Hospital, where he later died during treatment.
Further investigation revealed that the occupants of the Fortuner car were staffers of GEN-Z Bar near Kuthal Gate. On the night of March 29, they had brawled with a group of customers travelling in a Scorpio over a bill payment issue. The Scorpio occupants included Shantanu Tyagi, Aditya Chaudhary, Kavish Tyagi and some others. The argument later escalated, leading to a chase and firing between the two groups, resulting in the tragic death of the army veteran.
