Cong leaders demand justice in Belada incident of Roorkee

A delegation of senior leaders of Uttarakhand Congress met the chief minister Pushkar Singh Dhami at his office on Friday to express anguish over the recent incident in Belada village of Roorkee in Haridwar district. The delegation led by the Pradesh Congress Committee (PCC) president Karan Mahara discussed the incident in which a family belonging to the scheduled caste community was beaten up allegedly in presence of police. The Congress leaders demanded that justice should be delivered to the victims in the unfortunate incident.
The delegation also demanded a judicial probe in the incident and sought action against the culprits. The leaders said that compensation should be provided to the victim’s family and innocents should be immediately released from custody.
The delegation included former chief minister Harish Rawat, leader of opposition (LoP) in State assembly Yashpal Arya, former PCC president Ganesh Godiyal and party MLAs from Haridwar district.
The PCC president Mahara said that the party strongly deplores the incident which occured with a Dalit family. He said that the law and order situation in the State has deteriorated completely and claimed that jungle Raj prevails in the State. The Congress leaders said that the incident in which a Dalit family was severely beaten up and looted in presence of police shows that mafia rules the roost in the rural areas of the State. The delegation also questioned the role of Police in the case.
Apart from senior leaders MLAs Furkan Ahmed, Mamta Rakesh, Anupma Rawat, Ravi Bahadur, Virendra Jati, vice president organisation Mathura Dutt Joshi, chief spokesperson Garima Dasauni, chairperson of SC cell Darshan Lal, social media in-charge Amarjeet Singh and other leaders were part of the delegation.
