Major cases of irregularities have come to light at the sub-registrar office in Vikasnagar after the Dehradun district magistrate, Savin Bansal conducted a surprise inspection on Thursday. Following the inspection, he recommended suspension and departmental action against sub-registrar, Apoorva Singh.
During the raid, several serious irregularities related to stamp duty and land registrations were found. Important records were seized too from the office for further investigation.
According to the administration sources, original deed papers from 2018, 2024 and 2025 were found kept in suspicious condition in the office. Some registered documents were allegedly kept pending for months and even for years. Around 25 old registries were found dumped without proper entry or notice. The officials said that no satisfactory explanation was given for these pending cases.
In another major finding, the DM reportedly found 150 illegal registries linked to Golden Forest accounts, despite restrictions imposed by the Supreme Court. The officials further said that some restricted land had been also registered for sale in violation of rules. The role of present and former employees is now under investigation, they added.
The administration also identified 47 cases under Section 47-A related to suspected stamp duty evasion. The officials said that this may have caused revenue losses worth crores of rupees.
DM Bansal said strict legal and departmental action will be taken against those found responsible for the mess. “A detailed report is being sent to the government for further,” he added.
