STF claims to save Rs 10 Cr of cyber fraud victims in 4 months

In the first four months of this year, from January to April, around Rs 10.01 crore lost by cyber fraud victims was saved or recovered through the National Financial Helpline 1930, the Special Task Force officials claimed.
Police said that it had been possible thanks to quick action taken after complaints were received and bank accounts used in fraud were frozen immediately. Police also shared details of some recent cases. A woman from Dehradun had lost Rs three lakh in an online link fraud and the full amount was stopped from reaching the account of the fraudsters.
In another case, a Dehradun resident lost Rs 47.90 lakh in an investment scam and Rs 3.70 lakh was secured. Another victim lost money in a Google Pay fraud case, while a man from Bageshwar was cheated after his mobile phone was stolen.
The senior superintendent of police (STF), Ajai Singh said that people should not share OTP, PIN, ATM card details or UPI PIN with anyone. He urged people to stay away from fake investment schemes, unknown video calls and fraudsters pretending to be police or government officers. Citizens were asked to call 1930 immediately in case of cyber fraud.
