Two children died and one man was injured when a wall of their house collapsed following heavy rain in Maroda village of Dhanaulti Tehsil in Tehri district late on Saturday night. The remaining members of the affected family have been shifted to the Panchayat building. The Dhanaulti MLA Pritam Singh Panwar and district magistrate Mayur Dixit reached the site of the incident and also met the affected family.
According to sources, Pravin Das does farming and labour work in the village. His two children Sneha and Ranvir were sleeping with their grandfather Premdas and grandmother Ganga Devi in another room. Hearing the noise of heavy rain, the grandfather got up to wake up the children. However, a wall of the home also collapsed at this time and the two children were buried in the debris. The grandfather also sustained minor injuries in the incident. According to officials, the affected family has been provided financial assistance of Rs eight lakh. The district magistrate also directed the Irrigation department to undertake channelisation work in the Chifalta stream flowing near the village. The electricity department has been directed to shift electricity poles from vulnerable locations while the Public Works Department has been directed to ensure proper drainage of water on the Kaddukhal-Kumalda State highway. The Dhanaulti sub divisional magistrate was directed to inspect Badiyon Tok and Maroda Sain Tok and temporarily shift occupants of vulnerable buildings to the Maroda government inter college building. The district magistrate also directed the officials concerned to select land for the affected family and submit a proposal under Atal Awas Yojana.
