The Bharatiya Janata Party candidate for the Bageshwar Assembly by-election will file nomination in the presence of the party’s State president and chief minister on August 16. The party has already sent a panel of three names to its central parliamentary board which will consider the options and then declare the party candidate’s name.
Interacting informally with the media at the party’s State office, the BJP State president Mahendra Bhatt said that on Thursday, the party’s State election committee held deliberations and sent its top three choices for the BJP candidate to the party’s central parliamentary board. The board will consider the names and is expected to declare the candidate soon. Bhatt said that the preparations have started for filing of the nomination by the BJP candidate. The party candidate will file nomination on August 16 in the presence of chief minister Pushkar Singh Dhami and party leaders. Bhatt further said that the candidate will be selected according to the approval of the party workers and public sentiments. “The late cabinet minister Chandan Ram Dass worked for the welfare of the Bageshwar area throughout his life so it is natural for the party workers and local public to have positive feelings for his family. With the consent of party workers, the BJP will field a candidate who will fulfill the incomplete works of Dass and meet expectations of the people,” said Bhatt.
Targetting the Congress, he said that while the BJP indulges in proactive politics to win elections, the Congress contests elections to lose. The BJP chooses its candidate based on policy while the Congress searches within and outside the party for its candidate. He said that the Congress is finding it hard to find a candidate among its ranks and according to some media reports it is planning to bring a candidate from another party for the Bageshwar bypolls. The BJP is going to win this by-election with record votes while the Congress will once again lose the contest, he said.
