Saturday, 20 April 2024 | PNS | DEHRADUN

The police took action against two people in two separate districts for disturbing the voting process in the Lok Sabha election on Friday. In the Jwalapur area of Haridwar district, a senior citizen broke the electronic voting machine (EVM) when his demand to cast his vote by ballot paper was not met. According to the officials, when the man entered booth number 126 of polling station Jwalapur Inter College in the afternoon, he reportedly sought to cast his vote through a ballot paper. The officials there told him that it was not possible and requested him to cast his vote by EVM while assuring that his vote will remain undisclosed and secure till the vote counting. However, the man continued his demand and vented his anger by picking up the EVM and throwing it on the floor, officials said. This created chaos at the booth after which the police personnel on site brought him outside. The man continued to shout loudly that the voting should have been conducted through ballot papers. The police detained him for interrogation, the officials added. Besides this, the police also took a young man into custody from the Kunda area in Udham Singh Nagar district for uploading a video in which he showed the EVM inside the polling booth. He also showed himself casting his vote from inside the polling booth against the law. His video soon went viral on social media and the police soon started receiving complaints about him. Taking cognisance of the post, the police brought the man to the police station to inquire. The Udham Singh Nagar senior superintendent of police Manjunath TC said that the video was soon deleted from Facebook and the police will take further action as per the rules.
