Char Dham pilgrim numbers continue to soar

The heat in the plains and occasional rainy weather in the mountains has not affected the flow of pilgrims undertaking the Char Dham Yatra. A total of 65,236 people visited the Char Dham temples in Chamoli, Rudraprayag and Uttarkashi districts on Sunday. According to official data, the total number of pilgrims who have visited the temples since the reopening of Kedarnath, Gangotri and Yamunotri on May 10 and Badrinath on May 12 reached 15,67,096 on Sunday. The maximum number of people have visited Kedarnath in Rudraprayag district. According to official figures, 19,484 people visited Kedarnath on Sunday while a total of 6,27,213 have visited this temple so far. In the Chamoli district, 21,269 people visited Badrinath on Sunday while the total number of people who have visited this temple so far is 3,79,042. In the Uttarkashi district, 11,942 people visited Yamunotri on Sunday whereas a total of 2,85,631 have visited the temple so far. Similarly, 12,541 people visited Gangotri on Sunday while the total number of people who have visited this temple so far reached 2,75,210 on Sunday.
It is pertinent to mention here that more than 56 lakh people had visited the Char Dham temples during 2023. The government has been expecting that this record will be broken this year with a much bigger number of people expected to undertake the pilgrimage in 2024.
