Red warning- very to extremely heavy rain likely in Kumaon region today

Even as some parts of the State experienced heavy rainfall on Saturday, the State meteorological centre has issued a red warning (Take Action) regarding the possibility of very heavy to extremely heavy rain likely to occur at isolated places and heavy to very heavy rain at many places in districts of Kumaon region on Sunday. Very heavy to extremely heavy is rain at isolated places and heavy to very heavy rain is likely to occur at a few places in the districts of Chamoli, Rudraprayag and Pauri districts. Thunderstorms accompanied with lightning/very intense to extremely intense spells of rain are likely to occur at isolated places in districts of Kumaon region and Chamoli, Rudraprayag and Pauri districts. The meteorological centre has also issued an orange alert (Be Prepared) regarding the possibility of heavy to very heavy rainfall/thunderstorms accompanied with lightning/intense to very intense spell of rain likely to occur at isolated places in Dehradun, Uttarkashi, Tehri and Haridwar districts on Sunday. Apart from this, light to moderate rain/thunderstorms are likely to occur at most places in the State’s districts today.

The provisional State capital Dehradun is forecast to witness a generally cloudy sky. Few spells of light to moderate rain /thunderstorms are likely to occur of which one or two spells may be intense/heavy in some areas. The maximum and minimum temperatures are likely to be about 29 degrees Celsius and 23 degrees Celsius respectively in Dehradun today.

Meanwhile, very heavy rain was witnessed in Laldhang which received 121 millimetres of rain while heavy rain was reported in Rishikesh and Chamba which received 70 millimetres and 66 millimetres rain respectively. Similarly, there was 54 millimetres rain in Nainital, 52.5 millimetres in Haldwani, 46.5 millimetres in Bazpur, 43 millimetres in New Tehri, 37.5 millimetres in Gadarpur and 36.5 millimetres in Ramnagar.
