The polling for the Manglaur by-election was marred by sporadic incidents violence. As per reports received, eight to 10 rounds of firing in the air happened when two groups clashed outside the booths 53 and 54 in Libbarhedi village. Some people were injured in the incidents and they were rushed to a hospital by the Congress candidate Qazi Muhammad Nizamuddin.
Later, the State Congress chief Karan Mehra and the Qazi alleged that the administration and the ruling party have been acting unfairly in flagrant violation of the Election Commission norms. However, the SP (rural) Roorkee Swapan Kishore Singh said that they are collecting inputs about some anti-social elements having attempted to stoke trouble during the polling. “The situation is now under control and polling is going on peacefully,” he said.
