Develop 5 villages in each block as model villages: CM to officers

Chief minister Pushkar Singh Dhami has said that five villages in every block of the State should be developed as model villages. He said that efforts should be made to ensure that at least 10 villages of Uttarakhand find place in the category of top 100 model villages in the country. The CM gave the orders while chairing a review meeting of the Panchayati Raj department at the State secretariat on Friday. He said that work in a planned manner should be done for overall development of villages. Dhami said that the senior officials of the government and district magistrates should participate in Gram Chaupal programmes and the foundation day of Gram Sabhas should be celebrated as a festival.
In the meeting the CM said that the local architecture (mountain style) should be used in the construction of Panchayat buildings.
He directed that the department should increase the sanctioned amount for construction of the Panchayat buildings from existing Rs 10 lakh to Rs 20 lakh. Dhami said that drains should also be constructed along with construction of roads in villages and added that open gyms and parks should be constructed in the Gram Panchayats. He said that gates, schools and Panchayat buildings should be built in the villages in the name of martyrs of the army and paramilitary forces. The CM also directed the officials to use the funds received by the State from the 15th Finance Commission for the development of villages in a planned manner. He said that special attention should be paid to cleanliness and garbage disposal. He said that arrangement of computers and high speed internet connectivity should be arranged in all village Panchayats of the State.
The Panchayati Raj minister Satpal Maharaj said that along with the development of villages, employment should be promoted in the rural areas. He said that GIS mapping of the assets of all the Panchayats should be done.
Chief secretary Radha Raturi, additional chief secretary Anand Bardhan, principal secretary RK Sudhanshu, Panchayati Raj secretary Chandresh Yadav, additional secretary Alok Kumar Pandey and Panchayati Raj director Nidhi Yadav attended the meeting.
