Friday, 13 SEPTEMBER 2024 | PNS | DEHRADUN

The State Congress resumed its Kedarnath Pratishtha Raksha Yatra on Thursday. The Yatra under the leadership of Pradesh Congress Committee (PCC) president Karan Mahara was suspended due to the rain triggered disaster on August 1 at Sitapur. On Thursday, the PCC president resumed the Yatra from Sitapur amid heavy rains and inclement weather.  Addressing the party workers, Mahara said that the manner in which the BJP government has undermined the Kedarnath has hurt the religious sentiments of followers of Sanatan Dharma.

He warned that the disrespect of Baba Kedar will prove very costly to the BJP.  Mahara said that the chief minister Pushkar Singh Dhami had laid the foundation stone of the Kedarnath Dham temple in Buradi of Delhi on July 10. He said that following the protest by teerth purohits, local people and Congress party the plan for construction of a replica of Kedarnath Dham in Delhi has been cancelled. He however added that a stone (shila) fpm Kedarnath was also taken to Delhi for the ceremony and it has not been returned yet. Mahara said that the local people are demanding that the Shila should be taken back to Kedarnath and are linking its transportation with the natural disaster.

The PCC president said that Prime Minister Narendra Modi has also undermined the prestige of Kedarnath by holding photo sessions in the garbh grah of the Dham.

He said that the heavy machines are being used around the Kedarnath Dham and construction activities are going on there. Mahara said that the serenity and sanctity of Kedarnath is being destroyed and the government is in slumber.

The Vice president of State Congress Mathura Dutt Joshi informed that the Yatra will reach Kedarnath on Thursday evening. On Friday the Yatris will offer prayers at the Dham. The PCC president will meet Teerth purohits after which the Yatra will culminate, he said.
