Complete undergrounding of cables on time: UPCL MD

The Uttarakhand Power Corporation Limited (UPCL) managing director Anil Kumar reviewed the progress of the Asian Development Bank (ADB) funded project of undergrounding of the overhead power lines in Dehradun on Monday.

The MD directed all the officers to complete the undergrounding work on time while also ensuring the safety standards. He also directed the officers to ensure regular filling of pits and drains after the completion of work every day. Kumar said that the areas where the undergrounding of cables is being undertaken should be barricaded for safety purposes.

The MD directed that all the project management officers (PMOs) will ensure regular inspection of the works. He added that the PMOs will coordinate with the administrative units and departments concerned for road cutting and obtain necessary permission and ensure that the work of undergrounding of lines is done in a phased manner. Kumar further directed all the project managers to prepare an action plan for timely completion of the works while maintaining safety, high standards and quality. 

Under the ADB project, UPCL has started the process of undergrounding power cables along the main routes of Dehradun city, which mainly include Rajpur Road, Ramada Hotel to Ballupur Chowk and Transport Nagar Chowk, Lakkhibagh to Graphic Era Chowk, Kamala Palace hotel to Niranjanpur Chowk and Shimla Bypass to Saint Jude Chowk. The project also includes areas like Vidhan Sabha, Kailash Hospital, Deen Dayal Upadhyay district hospital, Vasant Vihar and the Rispana bridge.
