BIS safeguarding consumer interests by ensuring quality products: CM

Chief minister Pushkar Singh Dhami has said that the Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) is engaged in safeguarding the interests of the consumers by ensuring quality of Indian products and it has been involved in nation building for the last 78 years. He was addressing the inaugural ceremony of the club carnival of BIS here on Tuesday.

He said that the ISI mark has become synonymous with the product quality in the country. He said that the standards are not only the technical guidelines and measure of standards but also form the basis of development of the country.

The CM said that an ecosystem of standards is getting developed in the country in recent years and it is expanding to every sector including agriculture, road, transport and health. He said that in Uttarakhand the BIS is coordinating with the Public Works Department, MDDA, UPCL and Disaster Management department for spreading awareness on standardisation.

 The CM said that under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi the dream of ‘Atmanirbhar Bharat’ is getting fulfilled and the BIS has a major role to play in achieving this. He said that the objective of the PM is that Indian products set up an example in the world in their quality, innovation and trustworthiness.

The CM said that the State government has set up an umbrella brand under the name House of Himalayas for providing global recognition for the local products such as handicrafts, organic agriculture products and herbs. He said that the BIS has set standard clubs in more than 10,000 schools in the country and has inked MoUs with 100 renowned educational institutes. The BIS is now raising awareness on the significance of standards in the rural areas of the State, he said. 

The CM inspected different stalls and administered an ISI oath to the people on the occasion.

The Dehradun Cantt MLA Savita Kapoor, Uttarakhand director of BIS Saurabh Tiwari, Food commissioner HC Semwal and others attended the programme.
