Collective efforts needed to check substance abuse

The Haridwar district legal services authority secretary Simarjeet stressed on the need for collective efforts to check substance abuse. Speaking as the chief guest, at an event on substance abuse here on Tuesday, the DLSA secretary also expressed concern at the rise in substance abuse among the youth.

Haridwar Drugs inspector Anita Bharti said that drug abuse has spread across various areas. An addict arrested by the police returns to substance abuse after coming out of jail, she said while stressing on the need for the society to unit and work for checking substance abuse. In case a medical store owner is found selling controlled drugs for misuse, the department will proceed to cancel the shop’s license and pursue legal action, she said.

Dr Manu Shivpuri of Beti Bachao Abhiyan said that drug abuse has become a major cause for concern. Police officials, lawyers, government officials and social workers also expressed their views on the occasion.
