Ahead of Dehradun Bar Association elections on February 24, a new post for women vice president has been introduced that will mark a significant change from previous years when there was only one vice-presidential position. This was informed by the senior advocate and chief election officer of the Dehradun Bar Association LB Gurung.

He told The Pioneer that the association’s secretary, Rajbir Singh Rana, officially declared the schedule for the annual elections on Tuesday. He said that according to the current schedule, the nominations will officially open on February 12 and the last date for withdrawal will be on February 13. The voting will take place on February 24 and the vote counting process will be done on February 25, as per Gurung. With the election announcement on Tuesday, the atmosphere within the State’s biggest bar association has become quite lively and candidates have begun reaching out to advocates in their chambers, seeking support. The women advocates are also appreciating the association’s move of introducing a new post for women vice president this year, Gurung said.

He further informed that in the 2024 elections, 2,675 advocates cast their votes out of 3,815 registered voters. Given the rise in registration this year, the number of eligible voters is expected to increase. He stated that last year, 51 candidates contested across 11 positions but with the addition of the new post, the number of candidates is also likely to see a rise this time. Gurung said that the association has made all the necessary preparations for the elections and all the appointed officers will ensure the smooth conduct of elections.
