The Bharatiya Janata Party claimed that the Minority Educational Institutions Bill will safeguard constitutional rights and maintain educational standards in Uttarakhand. The party welcomed the cabinet’s decision to introduce the bill in the State assembly.

The BJP State president and Rajya Sabha member Mahendra Bhatt said that the bill will provide recognition to minority educational institutions in the State through a transparent process. The government will gain the authority to monitor institutions and issue necessary directives as needed. He stated that the bill will extend recognition, which was previously available only to Muslim institutions, to other minority communities including Sikh, Jain, Christian, Buddhist and Parsi groups. Institutions seeking recognition must be registered under the Societies Act, Trust Act, or Companies Act and have land, bank accounts and other assets in the institution’s name.

Recognition can be revoked in cases of financial irregularities, lack of transparency or activities affecting social harmony. Under the bill, institutions will continue to operate independently while cooperating to maintain educational standards. Recognition will follow criteria set by the Uttarakhand Board of School Education, ensuring transparent evaluation of students. Bhatt said that the bill will help maintain quality education in the State.

He added that the bill is expected to provide equal opportunities for students from all minority communities and support the growth of institutions that focus on academic excellence. The government aims to strengthen the education sector by ensuring that minority institutions meet regulatory standards while retaining their autonomy. The implementation of the bill will be monitored closely to maintain accountability and improve the overall education framework in the State, he added.
