Ganesh Chaturthi festivity starts in Doon with devotion & gaiety

With the ten-day celebration having started on Wednesday with the festival of Ganesh Chaturthi, Dehradun has prepared appropriately for the festival involving the God of Wisdom. Even on Wednesday, a large number of devotees were seen taking the idols of Lord Ganesh homes to the accompaniment of devotional music and dance.
In addition to these, many community pujas are also being held across the city. Here too, idols have been installed in the pandals on Wednesday morning.
A devotee, Monika Chanchal said that she had brought the idol of Lord Ganesh home early this morning to mark the start of the Ganesh Chaturthi festival. “We will hold the puja for 10 days with flowers, sweets and traditional prasad to be followed by the ceremonial visarjan,” she added.
A priest at the temple, Avtar Dimri said that the temple committee had ritualistically installed the idol of Lord Ganesh in the temple this morning. “For the next few days, the committee will offer puja and then in tune with the tradition, the immersion ceremony will be held. Until the visarjan, bhajan and kirtan programmes will be held every day along with the distribution of prasad among the devotees of the Lord,” he said.
