Teachers to play decisive role in making India world leader: Governor

The governor lieutenant general (retd) Gurmit Singh has said that the teachers will play a decisive role in making India the world leader (Vishwa Guru) till 2047. He was addressing the ‘Shailesh Matiyani State Educational Awards’ ceremony on the occasion of Teachers’ Day at Raj Bhawan on Friday.
Congratulating the award winning teachers, the governor said that this honour is a symbol of hard work and dedication of the entire teacher community. He said that after parents, the teachers are the real guides of children and they play a key role in giving the right direction to the future of the children. The governor said that Uttarakhand has remained a major centre of education and it is everyone’s responsibility to carry forward this rich tradition. He said that in today’s era of internet and social media, only teachers can save children from going astray and develop wisdom and correct vision of life for them. Singh urged teachers to develop the habit of reading books in children and connect them with sports, culture and creative activities.
Speaking on the occasion, chief minister Pushkar Singh Dhami said that the teachers have an important responsibility to shape the personality and future of the students with their experience, knowledge and hard work. Congratulating the teachers who received the awards, the CM said that Shailesh Matiyani was a storyteller who deeply understood the pain and sensitivities of the mountains. He left a deep mark in fiction, prose and contemporary thinking. Matiyani also threaded the struggle of the mountainous areas and villagers of Uttarakhand through words in his stories and novels. The CM said Guru is considered not only a teacher but also a guide in every sphere of life. He works to sow the seeds of patriotism, discipline, morality and values in the disciples, he said.
The CM said that in today’s digital age, the role of teachers has become even more important, who introduce our children to culture, values and moral values along with modern education. Dhami said that under the guidance of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the State government has started many schemes to improve the quality of education. Special schemes have also been started for the training and skill development of teachers. Uttarakhand was the first state in the country to implement the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020.
The Education minister Dhan Singh Rawat informed that virtual classes have been started in 1,340 schools and smart classes in 950 schools of the State. He said that sports complexes are being built in all the districts and vocational courses have been started in 550 schools of the State. Rawat said that 9500 new teachers will soon be recruited in the Education department.
In the programme 16 ( nine primary teachers, five secondary teachers, one Sanskrit teacher and one trainer) were felicitated.
The son of late Shailesh Matiyani, Rakesh Matiyani and other officers of the department attended the ceremony.
