DAV PG College gears up for student union election on Sept 27

With the announcement of the student union election date set for September 27, the administration of DAV PG College has begun preparations. Recently, the Higher Education directorate issued a notification confirming that the college, affiliated with Hemwati Nandan Bahuguna Garhwal (Central) University, will conduct the student union elections on the said date.

Principal of the college Kaushal Kumar said that the college administration has immediately started organising the election following the announcement. He said that the timeframe for arranging the election is shorter this year, making it quite challenging. However, he assured that they will conduct the election effectively. 

He said that preparations and guidelines have been issued regarding the organisation of the election. As of now, there are 8,543 student voters registered to participate, with the possibility of this number increasing in the upcoming days as the admission process is still ongoing.

Currently, the college has a total of 110 teaching staff and 40 non-teaching staff, all of whom will perform their respective duties during the election. The number of voting tables will be decided soon, but each table will be manned by five personnel, including three teachers, one non-teaching staff member and one fourth-class employee.

Kumar said that as per the election schedule, the nomination and withdrawal process will be completed by September 25. Guidelines have also been issued to prohibit the use of drums and firecrackers within the college premises. On September 27, voting will take place from 8:30 AM to 1:30 PM, and the counting of votes will commence at 2:30 PM. He assured that the election would be conducted peacefully within the college.

Meanwhile the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) has nominated Rishabh Malhotra as its candidate for post of president while the National Student Union (NSUI) has fielded Harish Joshi for the post.
