Man burnt alive in scrap shop blaze in Rishikesh

A man was reportedly burnt alive after a fire broke out under suspicious circumstances at a scrap shop on Hiralal Road in Rishikesh, Dehradun district early on Monday. Police recovered the charred body and sent it to the AIIMS mortuary. An investigation has been launched to determine how the man entered the shop, as per the officials. They informed that the fire started at around 3:30 AM on Monday. The fire brigade received information and reached the site and brought the fire under control after nearly two hours of effort. The officials stated that the shop was locked from the outside when the fire brigade team reached there. Firefighters broke the lock and opened the shutter to extinguish the fire. During the operation, they found a man’s burnt body inside the shop and informed the police. The officials said that the police took possession of the body and are yet to identify it. The police are investigating the circumstances under which the man was inside the locked shop. They also informed that an eyewitness said he heard cries for help from inside the shop as the fire spread but could not rescue anyone because the shutter was closed. He then alerted the fire brigade and police. The officials said that the cause of the incident will be clear after the investigation. The Fire Services is examining the cause of the fire, they added.
