Unemployed nursing graduates threaten to escalate their stir

PIONEER EDGE NEWS SERVICE/Dehradun

The unemployed nursing graduates have warned that if their long-standing demands are not addressed soon, they will be forced to escalate their ongoing stir. Notably, these graduates, under the banner of the Nursing Empowerment Movement (NEM), have been staging a sit-in at Ekta Vihar which marked the 74th day on Monday.

They are demanding a transparent recruitment process that prioritises candidates based on their seniority after completing their qualifying examinations, among others.

A NEM member said that despite the prolonged and peaceful protest, the State government has not yet issued a clear order. “We are frustrated and angry, too,” the member said.

They further said that due to persistent delays and irregularities in the recruitment process, thousands of trained and qualified candidates have been waiting for employment for a long time. They added that discrepancies in previous recruitment processes have deprived many qualified candidates of selection.

They have been demanding the State government to conduct an impartial investigation into previous recruitments and ensure complete transparency in the recruitment process.  “Our patience is now wearing thin and we have been left with no other option but to escalate the movement to put more pressure on the apathetic government,” a member of the agitating outfit said.

To recall, they previously met with the State Health minister and submitted a memorandum. The minister is supposed to have assured them that the State government had been working on the issues raised.
