New E-Zero FIR system records 5 cyber fraud cases in 2 days

PIONEER EDGE NEWS SERVICE /Dehradun

Within 48 hours since the Union Home Minister Amit Shah launched the E-Zero FIR system in Uttarakhand to strengthen action against cyber fraud cases, five E-Zero FIRs have been registered across the State. According to officials privy to details, three cases were lodged in Pauri Garhwal, one in Nainital and one in Dehradun.

Speaking of the matter, the senior superintendent of police (SSP), Uttarakhand Special Task Force, Ajai Singh said that the portal allows people to file an E-Zero FIR in cases of cyber fraud involving an amount of Rs 1 lakh or more. “After submitting the complaint online, the complainant must visit the police station to sign the FIR. If the complainant does not appear for verification, the FIR will be cancelled,” he added.

The E-Zero FIR system has been introduced under Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita to help victims of high-amount cyber fraud cases. The complaints received through the 1930 cyber helpline or the National Cyber Crime Reporting Portal will now be registered as E-Zero FIRs at the State cyber police station in Dehradun. These cases will then be forwarded to the concerned police stations through the Crime and Criminal Tracking Network and Systems (CCTNS).

The officials further said that the new system will help police act quickly, collect evidence at an early stage and freeze suspicious bank transactions. This would increase chances of recovering money lost in cyber financial frauds, they added.
