Don’t allow anti-social elements to harass people: Congress to govt

PIONEER EDGE NEWS SERVICE/ Dehradun

The chief spokesperson of Uttarakhand Congress, Garima Dasauni has said that two recent incidents in the provisional State capital Dehradun have raised serious questions about the law and order situation in the State. She said that in one incident employees of a store were allegedly harassed and offensive words were written on their nameplates while in another young women were harassed in one of the busiest roads of the city by some antisocial elements. Dasauni alleged that in both the cases the police and administration remained a mute spectator.

“If any organization or group is taking the law into its own hands and intimidating citizens, why immediate and strict action not being taken against them,’’ she questioned.

Dasauni said that chief minister Pushkar Singh Dhami should clarify whether his government will operate under the rule of law or work under pressure from certain organizations. She said that on the lines of the Uttar Pradesh government, the Uttarakhand government should also issue clear instructions that no organization will be allowed to take the law into its own hands.

Dasauni said that the State government must ensure that no one is discriminated against on the basis of religion, identity or ideology and that women’s safety is not compromised.  She demanded that impartial investigation should be conducted into both the incidents and the culprits should be identified and strict legal action should be taken against them.
