Stating that the government schools even in the provisional capital of Uttarakhand are in deteriorating condition, Delhi MLA and leader of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) Atishi said the Uttarakhand government should be ashamed of its apathetic attitude towards children and their education. On the last day of her three-day visit to the state, Atishi inspected some local government schools in Dehradun. After visiting a school near Sahastradhara Road, she said that this school is about five kilometres away from the secretariat but it still is in such a bad condition. She said that there are only four rooms in this school out of which two rooms are being used as stores. “Water drips from the roof when it rains. Students still have to sit on the floor during classes.
If this is the condition of the school which is located in the middle of Dehradun then one can guess the condition of schools in the mountainous areas of the state. The government should be ashamed of such schools that put the future of young children at risk,” said the Delhi MLA. She said that the cabinet minister Harak Singh Rawat is in the news for his resignation but did he ever give his resignation for such schools. “He only cares about himself and his daughter-in-law’s ticket. Congress leaders are also busy fighting amongst themselves but have nothing to do with such schools that are risking the future of hundreds of children,” added Atishi. She said that over two lakh children left private schools to study in government schools in Delhi but the governments here have destroyed the government schools. “If AAP forms the government next year, we will entirely change the condition of the schools here,” added the AAP leader.
