Emphasise on road safety, saving lives- Minster to officers

With an objective of reducing accidents and deaths, iRAD project launched in U’khand

Transport minister Chandan Ram Das started the Integrated Road Accidents Database (iRAD) project aimed at reducing the road accidents and accident deaths in Uttarakhand at the state secretariat on Tuesday. Speaking on the occasion, the minister said that the iRAD would provide proper information about the reasons of the accident which will help the officers in taking corrective measures. These steps would help in reducing road accidents in the state.  The iRAD is a government of India designed project which has been integrated with databases ‘Vahan’ and ‘Sarathi’ of the transport department. A system of inter departmental workflow has been made under the portal. The project would have four stakeholders, the police, transport, Public Works Department and health department.

The minister also presided over a meeting of the Road Safety Committee on the occasion and reviewed the works of the work executive agencies. He said that remaining works in providing the basic facilities, road marking, signage, black spots and others should be completed in time. The minister said that the district wise review of the identified accident prone areas should be done and necessary corrective measures should be taken. He also said that proper measures should also be taken for the safety of pedestrians. The minister directed that the spots in the roads should be earmarked where accidents are taking place due to over -speeding. He said that speed detection cameras should be deployed and use of modern technology should be done at such places. The minister said that all the private and government ambulances should be linked with 2108 service and directed that more ambulances should be deployed at accident prone areas.

On a stern note the minister said that saving lives of people is everyone’s responsibility and in case of accidents the police, health, transport and PWD should reduce their response time to minimum.

The transport secretary A S Hyanki, Secretary excise H C Semwal, secretary in charge urban development V K Suman, DIG and director traffic Mukhtar Mohsin, transport commissioner R S Chauhan, additional secretary health Arunendra Singh Chauhan, AS PWD, Home Atar Singh and others were present on the occasion.
