Administration to hold camps for documentation and health check-ups of children in child care homes

Dehradun district administration will hold camps for orphan certificates, permanent residence, Aadhaar, Ayushman, ration cards and health check-ups for children residing in child care homes. District magistrate Savin Bansal stated this in the quarterly meeting of the District Child Protection Unit, District Child Welfare and Protection Committee, Child Welfare Committee, Child Helpline 1098 and the beggary prevention intensive care centre on Friday. He directed the e-district manager to schedule Aadhaar operators and equipment at child care homes for Aadhaar updates and new enrolments. He instructed police to conduct random verification of staff working in these facilities. The additional chief medical officer will send the teams concerned to government and non-government institutions within 10 days for health examinations and vaccination. The DM said that the intensive care centre engages children rescued from beggary through music, yoga and sports to shift their focus towards education. The administration has rescued 82 children in two phases and enrolled them in schools. Work is underway to build an intensive care centre at Sadhuram Inter College at a cost of Rs 1.5 crore. He informed that between July and September 2025, authorities presented 136 children before the Child Welfare Committee for care and protection and released 138 children. Officials presented 70 children involved in beggary and 14 in child labour before the committee. Six children from other states were reunited with families. An inter-departmental team and three rescue vehicles patrol urban areas to identify and rescue children engaged in beggary. The team includes Home Guards, Child Helpline, Education, Labour, Police departments and NGOs. Bansal ordered activation of ward-level and village-level child protection committees and directed municipal bodies and Panchayati Raj officials to allocate five per cent untied grants under Mission Vatsalya for child welfare and safety. He asked authorities to initiate registration under the Juvenile Justice Act for unregistered institutions. The officials also reviewed Child Helpline cases related to child labour, beggary, education, addiction, abandonment, abuse, child marriage and follow-ups. They discussed sponsorship beneficiaries under Mission Vatsalya and verification of new applications. Departments received instructions to resolve documentation challenges faced by orphan children in child care homes. The DM also directed the chief education officer to arrange a special teacher for differently-abled children residing at Shri Sathya Sai Seva Ashram in Aamwala and studying at the nearby government primary school.
