Considering the orange alert regarding the possibility of heavy to very heavy rainfall in parts of the State including Chamoli district, the district administration has suspended the pilgrimage to Badrinath on August 13-14. This comes shortly after suspension of Hemkund-Lokpal Yatra and visits to Valley of Flowers in the district due to the weather forecast.
According to official sources, during the ongoing monsoon, the road at Kameda, Nandprayag, Bajpur and Bhanerpani is getting blocked repeatedly. Considering this and the weather warning, the district administration has suspended the pilgrimage to Badrinath for two days. District magistrate Sandeep Tiwari said that the decision had been taken after the warning issued by the Meteorological centre. Further decisions will be taken considering the weather forecast, he said.
Meanwhile, the pilgrims entering the district are being stopped by the police at Gauchar. They are being informed about the weather conditions and warning along with the risk of landslides. The pilgrims are being sent back from Gauchar to prevent any untoward incident. The authorities have stated that the pilgrimage will resume once the weather clears and the roads are found to be secure. The pilgrims have been requested to not undertake the journey without checking official updates of the administration and district police.
