BIS organises Manak Manthan onindustrial safety helmets

The Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS), Dehradun Branch organised a ‘Manak Manthan’ programme here on Wednesday. The BIS sources said that the objective of the programme was to discuss with industry, consumers and regulatory bodies the revision and improvement of the Indian Standard IS 2925 for Industrial Safety Helmets.
The chief guest of the programme was the additional commissioner, Labour department, Anil Petwal. The guests of honour were the president, Industrial Association of Uttarakhand (IAU), Pankaj Gupta and vice-president, PHD Chamber of Commerce and Industry (PHDCCI), Rajiv Vaidya.
Petwal commended the Bureau of Indian Standards for its efforts in standardisation, stating that standardisation plays a vital role in ensuring safety in factories. He urged all industries and consumers to use BIS-certified products to foster a culture of safety and quality in workplaces.
Addressing the programme, director and head, BIS Dehradun, Saurabh Tiwari highlighted the concept of ‘Standard Manthan’, improvement in the quality of industrial safety equipment and the process of updating the standards.
The joint director, BIS, Sachin Choudhary gave a detailed presentation on the revised Indian Standard IS 2925, sharing the key requirements and testing procedures like Shock Absorption, Flame Resistance and Resistance to Penetration.
Over 60 participants, including industry representatives, consumer organisations, technical experts and representatives of testing laboratories participated in the event.
Engineering students from Uttaranchal University and Graphic Era University also actively participated in the programme.
The experts and industry representatives present on the occasion suggested that the Indian standards related to industrial safety helmets should be made more practical, useful and internationally competitive as per the actual needs of the industry.
