Reiterating that those rejected by the Bharatiya Janata Party for indiscipline and corruption were selected by the Congress, the BJP State president and Rajya Sabha member Mahendra Bhatt said that the Congress should be worried about those miffed at the party leadership and those who resigned due to the recent developments. Bhatt hinted that some Congress leaders could leave the party following the recent developments. He said this a day after six leaders including three former BJP leaders joined the Congress. Bhatt said that the situation being faced by the Congress is such that the number of those dissatisfied with the party leadership is much more than those who have joined it. Some have resigned while some have decided to stay silent in protest, he added.
Interacting with the media at the party’s State head office here on Sunday, Bhatt rejected Pradesh Congress Committee president Ganesh Godiyal’s criticism of his statements, stating that there is nothing wrong with his statements. “The Congress leaders are used to thinking in double-meaning. They understand in the manner in which they think about their own party leaders. I will once again clarify that some people joining the Congress on Saturday is not a major development. Most of these persons had been expelled from the BJP in the past for indiscipline, corruption and immoral conduct. They presented their position in front of the public during the elections but were also rejected by the public. Considering this, I have no hesitation in saying that those rejected by the BJP and the public were selected by the Congress. They are welcome to maintain their delusion but the BJP will never compromise with discipline, morality and conduct,” he said.
Referring to former chief minister and senior Congress leader Harish Rawat being dissatisfied with the developments, Bhatt said that the entry of a few people is sure to make many others exit the party. He said that senior Congress leaders are apparently unhappy with the latest inductions. “It is possible that those with self-respect remaining and a very senior leader might not remain in the Congress for long. Instead of focusing on the list of leaders joining the party, the Congress should give consideration to the list of the leaders who are remaining in the party,” the BJP State president said.
