PIONEER EDGE NEWS SERVICE/Dehradun

The construction of the blood bank at Deen Dayal Upadhyay District Hospital is getting delayed. Notably, the hospital administration had submitted a proposal for the blood bank to facilitate and improve patient services, following an order from the district magistrate, which was later approved. Construction began on the hospital premises after the approval, but its completion and handover remain uncertain amid ongoing delays. In light of this, Dehradun Chief Medical Officer (CMO) Dr Manoj Kumar Sharma said that an inspection will be conducted at the district hospital premises regarding the blood bank.

Talking to The Pioneer, Sharma said that construction of the blood bank building at the district hospital has been underway for the past few months. He noted that the DM, Savin Bansal also recently conducted an inspection of the blood bank site. While the construction of the building is nearly complete, it has not yet been handed over by the construction company.

Sharma said that some changes were made during the construction, which have caused delays. To address this, he plans to conduct an inspection of the blood bank at the District Hospital soon or after April 15. During this inspection, the construction work will be thoroughly reviewed and if any shortcomings are identified, directions will be issued to rectify them. He also stated that during the inspection, directions regarding expediting the completion of the blood bank will be given.

It will be recalled that the principal medical superintendent at the District Hospital, Dr Manu Jain, previously informed that the hospital administration has been actively monitoring the construction progress to ensure it is completed on time. He also informed earlier that the hospital administration has asked for a budget from the Director General of Health to acquire essential equipment for the facility.
