School boy sustains minor injury in bear attack

Incidents of bear attacks on humans and cattle may have decreased marginally but cases of human-wildlife conflict have continued especially in the mountainous areas. In the latest incident from Chamoli district, a class VII student Devesh was attacked by a bear cub in the Pokhri block when the boy was going to school. The boy sustained minor scratches on his leg from the bear’s claws. According to local sources, the boy was walking to school when the bear cub appeared from the bushes along the path. The cub grabbed hold of the boy’s leg and scratched him. The boy’s friend walking with him to school, hit the cub with stones and made noise, causing the bear to run away into the jungle. The injured boy received primary treatment and was sent home after that.
