IAS trainees from LBSNAA visit NIM, Himalayan Museum

Fifteen Indian Administrative Service (IAS) trainee officers from the Lal Bahadur Shastri National Academy of Administration (LBSNAA), Mussoorie, visited the Nehru Institute of Mountaineering (NIM) in Uttarkashi to familiarise themselves with the practical aspects of mountaineering, adventure sports and Himalayan environmental conservation.
The visit began with an introductory session during which the officers were briefed about the establishment of the institute, its training methods and its important role in promoting mountaineering culture in the country. The officers were also given a glimpse of the Basic Mountaineering Course through a video presentation on mountaineering.
The officers then toured the Himalayan Museum where they viewed exhibits related to mountaineering history, famous expeditions, mountaineering equipment and Himalayan ecology.
The institute’s vice- principal, Captain G Santosh Kumar said that such excursions instil courage, discipline and leadership in officers joining the administrative service. He added that mountaineering training not only develops physical fitness but also fosters environmental sensitivity and a strong teamwork spirit.
