3 women attacked by bear in Chamoli and Rudraprayag

Three women were injured in separate bear attacks in Chamoli and Rudraprayag districts on Sunday. The scared villagers are demanding immediate intervention from the forest department.
The first case was reported from Guniyala village under Pokhari block of Chamoli district. Ruchi Devi (28) had gone to forest to collect fodder when a bear attacked her. As other women who were with her raised an alarm, the bear fled. The injured Ruchi was taken to CHC, Pokhari. She suffered injuries on her head and abdomen.
Another woman Meena Devi (50) was also attacked by a bear while she was cutting grass in Baniyadi village in Agastyamuni area of Rudraprayag district. Lakshmi Devi who was standing nearby tried to save her, but the bear attacked her as well. The villagers rushed them to the Agastyamuni CHC.
The Forest department said that due compensations had been paid to the injured women. Besides, the department also promised to intensify patrolling in the affected areas.
