Maharaj discusses medical tourism with Dr Harsh Vardhan

The State’s Tourism and Culture minister Satpal Maharaj met the Union Health and Family Welfare minister Dr Harsh Vardhan to discuss the scope for medical tourism in Uttarakhand.
Meeting the Union minister in the national capital, Maharaj also thanked for the cooperation being provided to the state during the Covid-19 pandemic. Referring to the scope for medical tourism in Uttarakhand, he said that among Asian nations, India is at the top when it comes to medical tourism. Nations like Thailand, Singapore, China and Japan are now also trying to attract such tourists. However, India receives the maximum number of such tourists due to the considerably low cost of treatment, latest medical technologies and equipment along with absence of language problem for foreigners. The cost of treatment is one fourth in India compared to foreign nations while the visit is also interesting. Stating that Uttarakhand is suitable for medical tourism, Maharaj stressed on the need for developing this aspect along with mainstream tourism. The environment in Uttarakhand is naturally suited to all types of treatments. There are many medicinal herbs found in the state which are medicines for serious ailments, he added.
